About the work
A mobile portrait and documentary studio for Bwgcolman (Palm Island). It sets up where people already are and makes formal photographs the way a town studio once did: lit, considered, printed, handed over.
Why this work
Photographs of Palm Island have mostly been taken by people passing through, for uses the community did not choose. The studio inverts that. Community members sit for a portrait because they want one, the file belongs to them, and consent is a decision they make per image, revocable and recorded.
