Objectives

  1. Enhancing Accessibility: Incorporating universal design principles, the project significantly enhances accessibility in tourism services, offering features like wheelchair-friendly layouts and sensory-friendly environments for neurodivergent guests.
  2. Co-Design with Disabled Community: The project's development involves active co-design with individuals with disabilities, ensuring their needs and preferences are integral to the design process. We want to design and test this cabin with the community through providing one year of free community access to refine and improve the design experience.
  3. Improving Visitor Experience: By addressing specific accessibility needs, the project enriches visitor experiences for those with disabilities, promoting inclusivity in Queensland's tourism sector.
  4. Alignment with State Plans: The project aligns with Queensland’s Disability Plan and Towards Tourism 2032, fostering inclusive, sustainable tourism development in the region.

Project Viability

  1. Cash Co-Contribution and Funding Evidence: We are committed to co-contributing a significant portion of the project costs. This includes both cash contributions and in-kind services, evidenced by our bank statements.
  2. Creation of New Jobs and Community Impact: The project is expected to create new jobs during both the development and operational phases, contributing to local employment. By enhancing the region's tourism appeal, the cabin will stimulate economic activity, benefiting local businesses and the community. The project aligns with environmental sustainability principles, contributing to the State's green initiatives.
  3. Accessibility Self-Assessment and Accreditation: We have completed an accessibility self-assessment using the Accessible Tourism Toolkit, ensuring the project addresses real accessibility needs. Our aim is to achieve recognised accessible tourism accreditation, demonstrating our commitment to inclusivity and setting a precedent in the industry.
  4. Maintenance and Longevity of the Project: A detailed maintenance plan has been developed for the cabin, ensuring its longevity and continual compliance with accessibility standards. Ongoing staff training will be implemented to operate and maintain any new equipment or modifications effectively.
  5. Support from Key Industry Stakeholders: We have garnered support from organisations in the disability sector, evidenced by letters of support. These endorsements highlight the project’s relevance and potential impact.
  6. Past Performance in Project Delivery: Our track record with previous projects, especially those funded by tourism grants, demonstrates our capability and reliability in successfully delivering projects on time and within budget.
